Around 10pm on Tuesday night Keith Jackson turned to Twitter and informed his 30,000 followers- plus a few more lurkers that Celtic’s transfer business was over.

When the award winning Daily Record reporter tweets fans tend to take notice. Some treat it as gospel, others remember some stories around 2011 that turned out to be spectacularly wrong. There are no known billionaires from Motherwell.

After 30 plus years in the business Jackson is well connected but last night his contacts weren’t quite as on the ball as he’d like.

By early evening Jota and Georgios Giakoumakis had been announced as Celtic signings, most fans were resigned to no more arrivals.

Jackson took that line as well, two hours later he was back on Twitter admitting that he had got it wrong, perhaps he remembered the line about the fat lady breaking into song.

On the stroke of midnight the grinning face of Cameron Carter-Vickers appeared in a Celtic top…

Twitter isn’t the most sympathetic platform as Jackson knows from previous experiences. When someone in the public eye slips up the pile on can be spectacular.
