Patryk Klimala has spoken out about the bad football that destroyed Celtic’s hopes of winning a 10th successive SPFL title.

The striker joined Celtic in January 2019 just as Leigh Griffiths found form with the goals that took Celtic to 9-in-a-row in tandem with Odsonne Edouard.

What happened next is likely to be one of the biggest unanswered questions of all time.

Ferencvaros posted an early warning of Celtic’s limitations, within a week David Turnbull and Shane Duffy had been added to the squad.

Celtic took 25 points from their first nine matches but the football was painful on the eye with laboured victories over Livingston, Dundee United and St Johnstone highlighting the disastrous autumn form that was round the corner.

Looking back on where it all went wrong, Klimala told Football Scotland:

I spoke with the guys and they would tell me how important it was but we played bad football, that’s the reason we didn’t win. Our performances on the field. Everyone, I think, is on the same page as me, we played bad football and that’s why we lost.

It’s hard to explain why exactly we did so badly. I can’t say, ‘Yes it was because of the coach’, or, ‘Yes it was because of the players’. It wasn’t like that. We tried to do our best on the field and we weren’t good enough.

Klimala left for New York RB in March with three goals from three starts and 14 substitute appearances in last season’s SPFL Premiership.
