In the final match of 2019 Alfredo Morelos was given a second red card at Celtic Park.

For gestures as he left the park Kevin Clancy issued a third yellow card later in the dressing room which excused the SFA Compliance Officer from reviewing the incidents involving the Colombian striker.

Remarkably Steven Gerrard’s side have avoided a domestic red card in the 66 matches that have followed. That red card for Morelos was his second of the month, being sent off at Motherwell two weeks earlier.

As the table above shows the Ibrox club have enjoyed incredible good fortune from Scottish referees over the last 22 months. This year alone pesky foreign referees have sent off Kemar Roofe, Leon Balogun, John Lundstram and Glen Kamara.

Last season over a two month spell Morelos twice and Roofe were given retrospective red cards. All three incidents occurred in the first half of matches that Gerrard’s side went on to win by a single goal.

Nick Walsh, the rising star on the refereeing circuit has sent off Stephen O’Donnell, Ryan Porteous and Callum McGregor in his last four Sevco appointments.
