Stephen Welsh is ready to report for full training at Lennoxtown today.

The defender picked up a late injury during Scotland’s 2-0 defeat from Belgium’s u-21 side on Tuesday night.

It had looked like Celtic had got through the international break injury free but after Kyogo Furuhashi’s injury at the start of September fans are on eggshells as those breaks occur.

A video clip after the u-21 match showed Welsh walking freely to give a fan his Scotland shirt with the player confirming to the Daily Record that he has shrugged the knock aside:

I’m fine. It was a knock when their player had a shot and followed through on us, but I just came off as a precaution. I’ll be fine for the weekend.

You’re always worried when you feel a bit of pain, but luckily it wasn’t a twist or anything. It was just pure impact so I should be fine.

Welsh has stood in for Carl Starfelt in Celtic’s last two matches after the Swede suffered a hamstring strain during the 0-0 home draw with Livingston.

Starfelt’s fitness alongside that of Tom Rogic will be the big decisions for Ange Postecoglou to make before Saturday’s match which against St Johnstone which begins a period of 12 matches in 42 days.
