There are two very different takes on Albian Ajeti’s Celtic prospects in today’s newspapers.

Over the last couple of matches the striker has struggled to make it onto the bench with Ange Postecoglou preferring Giorgios Giakoumakis as his back-up to Kyogo Furuhashi.

With the former VVV Venlo striker injured Ajeti will be on the bench at Hampden but unless something very dramatic happens it looks like his Celtic days will be over at the turn of the year.

‘Celtic set to jettison Ajeti in January’ is on the back page of the Daily Mail, reporter Stephen McGowan does have a track record of being close to the news inside Celtic.

In their gossip page BBC Scotland reports:

Celtic are prepared to cut their losses on £5m striker Albian Ajeti in January as they look to offload the striker who has failed to impress since joining from West Ham in August 2020. (Daily Mail, print edition)

Does Albian Ajeti have a future at Celtic beyond January?

Yes, a natural poacher and scorer

Yes, a natural poacher and scorer

No, not happening, move on

No, not happening, move on

As ever the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Until the January transfer window opens Ajeti could be required by Postecoglou but the arrival of a striker will likely pave the way for the Swiss internationalist to move on.

Finding a buyer looks like a tough task but his record at Basel, prior to moves to West Ham and Celtic should create interest in a loan move which is likely to suit all parties.

Its in his own hands really but its last chance saloon for Big A. After his first few starts in a Celtic jersey I thought he was a good addition to the team but he’s slid so far down the slope I wonder if there’s any way back. If the opportunity comes along and he gets on the pitch he needs to show he’s fit and willing or its over. Don’t know why he’s been so unsuccessful since he’s come to Britain because he was a fine player but its a wonder also who would want to take a chance on him now. HH
