St Mirren are reported to be one positive test result away from having tonight’s match against Celtic postponed.
On Friday the Paisley side announced that they had to cancel training after a wave of positive test results among players and coaching staff.
The SPFL has so far resisted calls from St Mirren to postpone tonight’s match and Sunday’s visit to Ibrox but it seems that the situation could quickly change.
Picking up on the issue at 8.10am this morning, The Sun reports:
Saints’ desperate plea to the league fell on deaf ears despite them being rocked by even more positive cases.
SunSport revealed how 12 players and a member of the coaching staff were already self-isolating.
Another member of the management team has now been struck down with the virus while three more players are symptomatic.
But St Mirren are still awaiting the results of those PCR tests and if just ONE returns a positive finding then the game could still be called off.
The SPFL revealed they are still evaluating Saints’ situation to see if it worsens overnight.
A spokesman said: “St Mirren’s postponement request has been rejected though we will continue to monitor the situation.”
On Saturday at Ibrox Dundee United fielded an under-strength ide including four teenagers in midfield with Craig Moore making his top team debut just three months after his 16th birthday.
With the prospect of bringing forward the winter break by three rounds of fixtures the SPFL are in for a busy morning. The final pre-split SPFL fixtures are scheduled for April 9.
My understanding of St.Mirren position is that game could yet still be postponed, depending on results of PCR tests that come back this morning.
If it does go ahead believe we have between 3 and 5 first team players available.
Remainder will be academy players.

We had to play kids so it’s hard situation but they can’t continually change the rules
There are no rules decisions are made as we go along. A complete and utter shambles from an organisation not fit for purpose.
Celtic had 13 players out after the Dubai debacle played 2 games losing 1 and drawing 1…. rules are rules.
