The Daily Record has picked up on the rumour that Daizen Maeda is expected to undergo a medical ahead of joining Celtic.
Over the last couple of months the striker has been strongly linked with rejoining Ange Postecoglou with Celtic expected to be busy in the J League once the transfer window opens on Saturday.
Injuries to the first team squad have highlighted how thin Celtic are on quality with virtually all fans in agreement that Kyogo Furuhashi was the most influential signing of the summer transfer window.
Getting close to that sort of quality would be very welcome with Maeda spending the first half of this year working under Postecoglou at Yokohama Marinos.
At 7.54 on their Transfer Blog, the Record reported:
A Celtic rumour set Twitter ablaze last night. The story goes that Daizen Maeda is ‘in London’ and ready to begin his medical with Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi to follow tomorrow.
True or not, it’s a sign that with Christmas over and done with things are really heating up in the world of transfers.
With 23 goals from 36 appearances in the J-League Maeda looks capable of having a big impact on Celtic with fans expecting a deal to completed in time for a debut at home to Hibs on January 17.
The 24-year-old is under contract with Yokohama for another two years but after striking a deal for Postecoglou it seems that there is a relationship between the two clubs.
?? Reo Hatate
?? Daizen MaedaI firmly expect these two will be Celtic players the next time we take to the pitch.
Heavily linked in recent weeks with Hatate telling his club he wants to join Celtic.
Yosuke Ideguchi I don’t have as much confidence in happening but we’ll see. pic.twitter.com/3EdGDU0oRr

Time will tell, we certainly need another CM but I think the other two are more likely.
There’s definite interest, that’s clear to see & hopefully it happens ?
