Dundee United face a race against time to have Tannadice declared safe to stage Sunday’s match against Celtic.

The Jerry Kerr (Main Stand) was damaged last weekend during Storm Arwen with the road outside closed to deal with the repair.

Falling behind on fixtures as well as points would increase the pressure on Ange Postecoglou’s side who’ll face Motherwell next Sunday (December 12) a few hours after Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side take on Hearts at Tynecastle.

Sky Sports are scheduled to screen the match at lunchtime on Sunday but last night The Sun reported:

DUNDEE UNITED face a scramble to get Sunday’s Sky game with Celtic on.

SunSport understands it’s in major doubt following significant damage to Tannadice caused by Storm Arwen last weekend.

United confirmed on Monday that the stadium would need to be assessed and repaired after Dundee City Council closed the road outside.

And now it’s understood they will have to satisfy health and safety chiefs before the clash against Ange Postecouglou’s side is given the green light.

The game is due to be on live television, so they will try to fast-track repairs over the next 48 hours in a bid to get it played.

United’s statement said: “Following Friday night’s Storm Arwen, we can confirm parts of the Jerry Kerr Stand roof were damaged. As a result Dundee City Council closed the road outside. Assessment of damage and restoration will begin today and is expected to last a few days.”

The Jerry Kerr stand was built in 1962, with its L-shaped construction it could be especially vulnerable to certain weather conditions. In some areas Storm Arwen was the worst to hit the east coast in 60 years.

Although Celtic’s December schedule is packed a postponement wouldn’t be welcome as they attempt to maintain a challenge for the SPFL title.

It seems like extensive work will have to be carried out on Tannadice with the options being to postpone the match or play it in front of a reduced capacity.

Following the match against Celtic, United are at home to Livingston on Saturday December 11.
