Another UEFA fine is likely to be heading Celtic’s way after a couple of fans invaded the pitch at half-time in the Europa League win over Real Betis.

With the players heading off at half time two ‘fans’ who looked barely in their teens raced onto the park with one video clip capturing the attempts to thwart their progress. Television companies avoid showing those incidents to avoid encouraging repeats.

Eventually the invaders were detained but it is strange that these incidents seem more likely during European matches.

In 2017 one invader got close to Kylian Mbappe with Celtic hit with a £9,000 fine for that incident.

Other than providing blanket stewarding around the perimeter of the pitch it is almost impossible to prevent someone from getting on the pitch but it will prove costly for Celtic and for those involved last night.

What do we pay srewadds for ?
Two wee boys can run on to the park and mix with the players as they leave the pitch at half time.
It was only when the two boys got almost to the tunnel and turned back that the stewards thought “Wait a minute. Something isn’t right here!”
    Shambolic.

“Other than providing blanket stewarding around the perimeter of the pitch…”

That’s what we should be having a Euro nights at least, if we want to avoid fines. That said though, the incidents we get fined for are usually taking place in the stands (banners/pyro) which a ring of stewards won’t do squat for…
