Alex Rae has accused Scott Brown of lacking a bit of class.

In 2004 the former Wolves midfielder signed a side letter for Dave Murray that saw £569,000 paid into a Trust for the duration of his two year contract with the old Rangers club.

In 2017 the Supreme Court ruled that the payment was disguised remuneration, liable to income tax, National Insurance, interest and penalties.

Soon after signing for Alex McLeish, Rae was given a five match UEFA suspension for kicking a grounded opponent in the head.

Dropping points and seeing a player sent off at Pittodrie appears to have struck a very raw nerve among Ibrox players, fans and media apologists.

Ally McCoist took two days to gather his anger together, BBC Scotland dug up Colin Hendry for his armband thoughts with Rae the latest to demonise the former Celtic skipper who won 22 major honours during 14 years at Celtic.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Rae said:

You know what you get with Scott Brown. You build up a reputation of someone who wants to put yourself about a bit.

But when you start throwing yourself to the floor, well that’s not really for me. That’s not decrying the boy’s success, because he’s one of the most decorated players in Scottish football.

But when you see someone who’s supposed to be a captain mocking a fellow pro after they’ve been sent off having conned the ref, I think it shows a little bit of a lack of class.

‘The boy’ is 36 years of age and the third most decorated player in Scottish football history.

Rae told The Chronicle:

The ball was actually there and he put his head down between my foot and the ball. It looked worse than it was, without a doubt. No action was taken by the referee.
