Desperately looking for further content to put Kevin Clancy in the spotlight the Daily Record last night struck ‘gold’.
Checking the list of referees for Wednesday’s round of Premiership fixtures the name of the bogey-man from Pittodrie was missing. The guy that became the first Scottish ref in 25 months to red card an Ibrox star, compounded by the fact that he also awarded a penalty for handball by Alfredo Morelos.
Bingo- another story. Except that it wasn’t.
Anyone with a passing knowledge of football would know that the SFA can’t appoint 17 referees for 6 matches. As well as Clancy 10 other referees have been ‘axed’ from the midweek card. After 21 rounds of fixtures Clancy has refereed, nine. That is less than 50%.
Motherwell’s digital manager Grant Russell pointed the issue out on Sunday night but not before paranoid Ibrox fans had the scent of victory in their nostrils over the demotion of a referee that went off script after denying Aberdeen a penalty shortly before Ianis Hagi opened the scoring.
Bizarre this untruth hasn’t been deleted yet.
Not just because of its inaccuracy, but also the pile on to a human being it adds to. https://t.co/C7NUu51FW3

Exactly.

Are the referees going to go on strike now?
Is Chic Young going to tell us about the referee’s crying or help like last time?— JoeBloggsCity (@joebloggscity) January 23, 2022
Refs are on a rota. He didn’t get chosen for a Prem game, a decision taken long before the furore of last week. Not “axed”, not a decision as a consequence.

The roster for mid week fixtures was made prior to the Aberdeen v Rangers game.

It’s the Record, what else do you expect.

As I keep on Saying, DON’T BUY THE RECORD.
So why has collum and madden been swapped for the glesga Derby
It’s Scotland and the North Lanarkshire mafia will always show bias in favour of the big Govan side. They’re never been embarrassed by it
