Bobby Petta caught up with his former Feyenoord team-mate Giovanni van Bronckhorst over lunch on Tuesday.

Back in the early nineties the two Rotterdam kids were brought together as they came through the ranks at Feyenoord

Petta was quickly moved on to Ipswich Town before Feyenoord hit the jackpot with a £6m fee for van Bronckhorst in 1998 as Dave Murray plundered the overdraft facilities from the Bank of Scotland, generously agreed by Gavin Masterton then inherited by HBOS.

A year later Petta joined his former team-mate in Glasgow but his first season at Celtic was a miserable experience before things went spectacularly right in 2000 under Martin O’Neill.

Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton took the headlines from the 6-2 Demolition Derby that saw momentum turn in Glasgow. The last 20 years has certainly been contrasting for the former Feyenoord prospects, yesterday’s lunch would have covered a lot of ground.
