Ismaila Soro is likely to be the next name out of Celtic.

The midfielder was signed in January 2020 from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda but had to wait until December for his first start where he combined well with David Turnbull in the 3-2 dead-rubber Europa League tie against Lille.

That triggered a short burst of appearances during which some highly optimistic fans tipped Soro to be Scott Brown’s successor.

In total Soro has started just 12 SPFL matches, under Ange Potecoglou he has sometimes struggled to make the bench with his only start since September coming in the Europa League win over Real Betis.

Covering his situation, The Sun reports:

ISMAILA SORO has emerged as a January target for New York Red Bulls. The Celtic midfielder will be allowed to leave this month — either on loan or permanently.

SunSport understands Red Bulls are one of several MLS sides keen on landing Soro. The 23-year-old Ivorian also has admirers in Israel, where he previously played for Bnei Yehuda.

But the United States now looks his most likely destination after falling down the midfield pecking order at Celtic.

Soro is under contract until May 2024 but seems unlikely to progress his career at Celtic.

From August 2018 Celtic’s recruitment went badly downhill with players like Vakoun Bayo, Marian Shved, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Patryk Klimala bought and moved on without making any impact.

Soro has made more SPFL starts than any of those players but alongside Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti and Boli Bolingoli it seems that time is up for the 23-year-old Ivorian.

Yesterday Ewan Henderson joined Hibs, initially on loan with Liam Shaw close to joining Motherwell on loan.
