Image for Kris Boyd falls silent on VAR as Aberdeen are denied first half penalty

Back in December Kris Boyd was almost hysterical as he reviewed Kyogo Furuhashi goal against Hearts.

The Sky Sports expert could hardly be any more animated as he squealed about a stonewall offside despite that cliché only applying to penalties. Beside him in the studio former Hearts skipper Christophe Berra admitted that it was too close to call from the multiple angles shown by Sky.

VAR this, VAR that, VAR the next thing. If he could have bought it that night and applied it retrospectively you can be sure Boyd would have splashed out there and then.

Like the early winter break VAR would be welcomed by at least 10 sets of supporters in Scotland, over the course of a season less honest mistakes would be detrimental to one club regardless of which former referees are sitting in the VAR nerve-centre.

Last night VAR was off the menu for Boyd with Aberdeen denied a first half penalty, within 30 seconds of that decision Ianis Hagi opened the scoring at the other end.
