Ismaila Soro could be on his way to Holland before the Transfer Window closes.

The midfielder joined Celtic two years ago from Bnei Tehuda but had to wait 11 months for his first start- against Lille in a Europa League tie.

Despite an impressive burst of form Scott Brown soon won his place back in the side despite agreeing a pre-contract move to Aberdeen.

Soro started this season in and around Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI but has drifted out of contention with Callum McGregor, David Turnbull and Tom Rogic establishing themselves as the first pick midfield.

Football Scotland reports:

Fortuna Sittard are in talks with Celtic to sign Ismaila Soro. The Eredivisie outfit are hopeful of taking Soro, 23, to the Netherlands on a loan deal initially.

Football Scotland understands they are prepared to pay just under half of the player’s wages with a purchase option factored in to any potential deal. Celtic are willing to allow the midfielder to leave Parkhead this January either on loan or permanently.

This month Postecoglou has brought in Reo Hatate, Yosuke Guchi and Matt O’Riley to strengthen his midfield, on Saturday against Dundee United 16-year-old Ben Doak was sent on as a substitute ahead of Soro.

If Soro moves on it continues the cull of signings from the 2019 and 2020 windows that has seen Patryk Klimala, Vakoun Bayo, Marian Shved and Hatem Abd Elhamed moved on after less than 20 SPFL appearances.
