For 18 months it has been all ‘Hi Steven’ and ‘Hi Giovanni’ as pre-prepared softball questions were handed to the manager as Ibrox media conferences.

It was a very cosy arrangement that suited all parties but the roof fell in last night at Celtic Park and in the Heart & Hand broadcasting centre.

David Edgar wasn’t in the mood to sugar-coat issues for the grieving bears. They welcomed in 2022 with a six point lead and the comfort that ‘Selik had shat it’, on Sunday they could be kicking off against Hearts trailing Selik by four points in the Premiership title race.

Almost no-one was spared as Edgar went through the squad that he celebrated with a few months ago.

The Iron Curtain defence was taken apart with Captain Tav and hapless Borna Barisic coming in for special criticism. On loan starlet Amad Diallo however didn’t rate a mention.

Van Bronckhorst wasn’t spared which is an ominous warning for the current Ibrox boss who hasn’t fully bought into the paranoia of the club.

The reality is that the cost of last season’s freakshow success has left the club unable to spend more than a token £100,000 in the last three transfer windows. The fall out is only getting underway even with Alfredo Morelos returning and a possible debut for Aaron Ramsey to look forward to on Sunday.
