Barry Ferguson’s big SPFL title confession

Barry Ferguson has admitted that Celtic are now in pole position to win the SPFL title.

Twenty-two years ago the former Alloa boss was a team-mate of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Martin O’Neill’s side stormed to a treble after Dick Advocaat had appeared to have taken the Ibrox club to a new, untouchable level.

The three point gap at the top of the table could be wiped out next weekend but after a nine point swing since the winter break it seems that the momentum is all in Celtic’s favour.

Picking up on his appearance on Go Radio tonight, the Daily Record reports Ferguson saying:

I’ll be honest, I’d rather be in Celtic’s shoes. I’d rather be three points in front. Obviously playing first, they can put a bit of pressure on if they go and get the win and go six points clear.

Am I getting worried at this stage? No, I don’t think there will be much panic. I do still believe there will be twists and turns and it will go right down to the wire. But I’m just being honest, I’d rather be in Celtic’s position, three points in front, no doubt about it.

They showed a different side to them. 2-2, going into the last 10 minutes it was squeaky bum time, then they get the third goal to cement the three points.

At this stage I wouldn’t be getting too worried about it, but I’d rather be three points in front than three points behind.

Ange Postecoglou has steered well clear of media predictions since he took over as manager, after a home draw with Dundee United in September he joked about the league getting called early.

On the back of eight successive wins Celtic are top of the table with 11 matches to be played but it will require the same level of consistency to maintain the momentum with recent results against Dundee, Aberdeen and Dundee United providing reminders that every fixture throws up problems and challenges.
