Celtic and Fortuna Sittard were unable to agree terms on a loan deal for Ismaila Soro.

The midfielder moved to Scotland from Bnei Yehuda in January 2020 for a fee reported to be in the region of £2m with a four year contract completed.

It took Soro until December 2020 to make his first start for Celtic, impressing in midfield alongside David Turnbull in the Europa League win over Lille.

For a brief spell Soro looked like holding down a place in central midfield but Scott Brown won his place back in the side and stayed in place even though he signed a pre-contract deal to Aberdeen.

Soro has slipped down the pecking order at Celtic as the season developed, with Yosuke Guchi, Reo Hatate and Matt O’Riley joining this month competition for places in midfield has intensified.

Last week Soro was an 89th minute substitute in the win over Hearts but against Dundee United he sat the match out with Ben Doak sent on for his debut ahead of the Ivorian.
