Celtic will have only around half of their usual number of fans inside Tannadice for next month’s Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United.

Normally the hoops support are given tickets for both sections of the Jerry Kerr Stand, running the length of the pitch and also the West Stand (Shed) behind the goal.

United have decided that they want to have their own fans in the West Stand to give Tam Courts’ side increased vocal backing.

In a statement United explained:

We are aware of the social media energy around pricing for the cup tie and while we wish we could have agreed a further reduced price with Celtic, these prices remain below SPFL league matches and are comparable to the prices for our trip to Pittodrie this weekend.

We fully appreciate the support that our fans have shown us during this season (and always) and we hope our decision to have United fans in three stands for this tie is vindicated by an enhanced home support. This remains a fantastic opportunity for the Club to reach Hampden and a Scottish cup semi-final and together we can dream of further glory.

Ticket money from cup ties is split evenly between competing clubs once costs have been deducted. With United reducing Celtic’s allocation the hoops have insisted on a £27 adult ticket price which could well deter additional United fans from attending.

The Monday evening kick off isn’t the most convenient but Celtic’s allocation of tickets for the Jerry Kerr Stand will be in great demand to ensure maximum backing as Ange Postecoglou looks to take Celtic back to Hampden for the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.
