The family of Wim Jansen have thanked Celtic for the way that they honoured their former manager.

At the age of 75 the legendary Dutchman died after being diagnosed with Dementia, a man that made a huge impact on Celtic during his 12 months in charge of the club.

Facing a massive overhaul in the shadow of a 10th title going to Ibrox, Jansen wasn’t pushed or rushed as he created a Celtic side that will be as celebrated as any outside of the Lisbon Lions.

Tom Boyd, Jackie McNamara, Phil O’Donnell, Simon Donnelly and Morten Wieghorst were revived while Craig Burley, Marc Reiper, Johnathan Gould, Paul Lambert, Harald Brattbakk and out of favour Feyenoord striker Henrik Larsson joined the club.

Despite losing their first two league matches hope was found in two UEFA Cup ties against Liverpool, by Christmas the League Cup had been won at Ibrox and a team was taking shape.

Result wise it wasn’t the greatest of seasons, the chance to win the title was lost in the second last game of the season at Dunfermline but when called upon Larsson and Brattbakk delivered to secure Celtic’s first title in a decade.

With that Jansen left the club, unable to agree to the terms of working alongside Jock Brown. It was brief but his memory will live on forever among thankful Celtic fans.

Wim saw through Brown and rightly did not wish to work with him.
Celtic could and should have backed Wim.
