The Daily Record has turned to Maurice Ross to have a go at Giorgos Giakoumakis for believing that Celtic are the best team in the SPFL Premiership.

The comments were made after the Greek striker scored a hat-trick in the win over Dundee to take Ange Postecoglou’s side three points clear at the top of the table.

It was a fairly straightforward claim made on the back of eight successive wins that have taken Celtic from six points behind five weeks ago into their current position.

Why any publication would turn to the manager of Cowdenbeath, currently six points adrift at the bottom of League Two to criticise a player at the top of the Premiership is of course down to editorial choice.

Ross however has a very interesting background, just nine months ago he was sacked as assistant manager of Notts County for gross misconduct.

Reflecting on that incident in the Daily Record last May he said:

During Saturday’s match at Altrincham, I made an ill-judged comment to a member of our playing staff which has led to my departure from the club.

I deeply regret the comment, which is not a reflection of the type of person I am, and would like to place on record my apologies to the player in question for the upset I have caused.

While it was said in the heat of the moment with no malice intended, it was nevertheless unacceptable and I’m devastated by the impact it’s caused.

I would also like to apologise to the club’s board of directors, supporters & Ian Burchnall, all of whom I have enjoyed working with immensely. The club have handled today’s events impeccably and everyone at Meadow Lane has my full support for the rest of the season and beyond.

I will be taking some time to reflect on my actions and learn from this experience before continuing my coaching journey.

Ross didn’t resign after the Altrincham match (May 1), he was sacked by Notts County four days later for gross misconduct. He had been in the job five weeks.

Rather than keep his head down and try to do something to rebuild his reputation if not credibility the former Scotland defender has opted to dish out advice to Giakoumakis on how to be humble!

Lecturing to the Daily Record about Celtic’s hat-trick hero, Ross suggested:

I think he needs to be a bit more humble. If I was in the Rangers dressing room, those comments would just be fuel for me.

Celtic were better than Rangers two weeks ago, that we can all agree on. I think the Rangers players would agree on that as well. But Celtic have been top of the league for about 10 minutes this season.

A wee bit of humility and a wee bit of respect would be a better way of going about your business. But there’s no doubt this will be used as fuel by that Rangers squad. Celtic are a good side, as are Rangers, so this title race is going to go to the wire.

I think it will come down to the two remaining Old Firm matches if I’m honest. But as for those comments, that’s a lack of class if you ask me

Celtic have been at the top of the SPFL Premiership for 20 days, not 10 minutes. Cowdenbeath are bottom of League Two and have a derby clash tonight away to league leaders Kelty Hearts.

Reports from England stated that Ross was sacked by Ross County, according to the Record he signed.

Is Donald Findlay still on the board of this club if so employing Mr Ross makes sense. Remember this statement from Mr Findlay after Paul Gasgoine beat up his wife “people forget what this man does for us on a Saturday”

I hope big Ange has a word with Giakoumakis, I didn’t like these comments myself. I’d rather he said the old fashioned 1 game at a time stuff. Comments like these, can come back and bite you in the backside. I don’t like the we are the best team in the league stuff, that’s for others to say. Hopefully ange will have a quiet word with the big man.

Racist Ross is only one of many. Racism is in their DNA.

Lack of class? Peepul like Ross and Rae and Bankrupt Bawwy who are fond of using this term, wouldn’t know class if it ran over them in the street.

Paying your debts and your taxes, that’s class.

Ross is in a panic because this is the10 minutes in which we usually go to the top of the league, on the way to winning it.
