Kris Boyd has given a heavily qualified explanation for his comments about Callum McGregor, rather than apologise for his comments about the Celtic skipper.

Fans rushed to social media to complain that the former Kilmarnock striker had crossed a line, Boyd’s constant criticism of most things Celtic is par for the course but advocating an act of violence on the football pitch is something very different.

Ange Postecoglou made no comment on Boyd at his media conference but late this afternoon Celtic tweeted that the matter was being addressed.

Three hours after Celtic’s tweet, The Sun reports:

MY Old Firm column in today’s Scottish Sun appears to have irked some Celtic supporters.

Therefore I think it’s right that I add some context and clarification to a reference I made about Callum McGregor.

I wrote: “The fact he managed to get through the 90 minutes without anyone testing out that face mask is another story, but his commitment to the team was tremendous.”

Some have taken that line to mean I wanted one of the Rangers players to intentionally try and hurt the midfielder. However, that is absolutely and unequivocally NOT the case.

It was simply meant as a criticism of the Rangers players for their failure to get close to McGregor.

As well as his column in The Sun Boyd is the main pundit for Sky Sports with their coverage of Scottish football.

This week he was on duty at the Edinburgh and Glasgow derbies, on Sunday Sky have a double header with live action from Fir Park and Ibrox.

If that dick is at Motherwell Sunday their will be trouble sky should take note

  • Victor Veritas says:

Reo Hatate has scored more Glasgow derby goals in 45 minutes than Boyd did in a lifetime of Glasgow derbies. He clearly has issues with Celtic due to his own personal failure against Celtic.

His comment that he has irked Celtic supporters is curious. What he said will be seen to be odious by any right minded football supporter, anywhere in the world.

And as so called pundits go, he really is not very good.

  • Tony B says:

Boyd is a rat and he should never be allowed to forget these crass and potentially inflammatory and dangerous comments.

Pursue him wherever he goes and call him out at every turn.

The fact that he is a moron is no defence.

  • Exiled in Ard Mhaca says:

Mr Boyd is a fumb duck.

  • Gerry says:

That reptile Boyd trying to sliver his way out of what he said about CM. Should never be allowed anywhere near Parkhead again.
