Sky Sports are standing by Kris Boyd despite his comments about Callum McGregor in midweek.

The former Kilmarnock striker joined Alex Neil in the Sky Sports studio at Ibrox as the official SPFL broadcaster covered today’s double header starting with Celtic’s visit to Fir Park.

Boyd’s dislike of Celtic was obvious on Wednesday night when his main half-time focus was on a non-existent head knock as he tried to find a way of disallowing Reo Hatate’s opening goal.

It was similar to his performance in December when he went on about a ‘stonewaller’ offside goal by Kyogo Furuhashi that repeated replays couldn’t confirm while fellow pundit Christophe Berra admitted that it was too tight to call.

On Thursday night Boyd overstepped the mark in his column in The Sun where he admitted his disappointment that none of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s players had tested the protective mask that Callum McGregor was wearing.

Celtic were swamped with complaints about the comments with the club tweeting that the issue was being addressed. The club rarely comment on the content of their media partners but it seems that suggesting violence against an employee crossed a line.

Boyd turned to The Sun on Friday night to give context to his comment but there was no apology, it seems that Sky Sports are content to give him a platform with the ball in Celtic’s court to see how they address the issue.

Barbour turned off comments from anyone other than she was following to prevent her account taking the Boyd backlash.

Response is simple. Cancel Sky. I did it regularly and they were soon on offering a discount. Now won’t give them my money.

  • Derek Conway says:

I am not well versed in the legalities of TV contracts etc. between F.A’s and broadcasting companies but Celtic should tell the SFA that they don’t want any dealings with Sky TV.
Celtic TV should broadcast all their home games and refuse to give interviews with Sky at any away games.
Sevco refuse to have anything to do with Cinch and have banned BBC and Daily Record so how come they can do that then?

  • Pan says:

Celtic Board should call it a day,if they do not have the Balls nor Gumption to tackle the SFA,SPLA,or SKY over this poor excuse for a Human Being. If he is Broadcasting from his Mutant Studio Chair about WANTING players to seriously injure a Fellow Professional to gain an advantage, simply because his beloved Sevco did not have any other answer to deal with Callum McGregor and the apposing players Club Chairman a d Board Members refuse to follow through on addressing the matter ,THEN THEY SERIOUSLY NEED TO LOOK AT THEMSELVES BIG-TIME.
