The greatest offside call of all time? Another shocking decision halts Celtic

It is difficult to know where to start with the state of refereeing at yesterday’s Scottish matches.

Bobby Madden didn’t cover himself in glory at Tannadice with supporters of both clubs screaming over missed red cards from the home fans and penalty claims for the visitors.

Later in the afternoon the spotlight was on Gavin Duncan and his assistants as Celtic took on Dundee, top v bottom with every decision vital for both clubs.

Firstly, a word of praise. Early in the second half assistant Graham McNellie got it right when he flagged Jota offside as he spectacularly hooked the ball into the net. The on loan Benfica winger was offside.

Other than that it was an afternoon to forget for the officials at Celtic Park.

How Duncan never spotted the shoulder and upper arm of Vontae Daley-Campbell smashing into Giorgos Giakoumakis is something of a mystery, the incident took place in the line of vision of the referee as the Celtic striker moved onto a cross into the box.

McNellie was in the centre of the action after the break as Celtic pushed to kill the game off. As he showed with the Jota incident he knows his job which makes the decision shown below on Daizen Maeda all the more mysterious.

It wasn’t a high speed incident, at the other side of the pitch Maeda took possession, played the ball inside then as he raced onto the return ball there were three Dundee defenders strung along a line in the centre of the penalty box. Offside according to McNellie and another promising move for Celtic halted by officials that aren’t upto the job.

Nothing has been heard from SFA refereeing chief Crawford Allan since he appeared on Sportsound at the start of December to discuss a goal from Kyogo Furuhashi against Hearts.

What’s more puzzling is the silence from the gutless custodians of celtic fc, why are they happy for these corrupt officials to give celtic players no protection and their decisions are mind boggling its team they started to look after the club and not concern themselves with the team that plays at ibrokes, are they more interested in the lie that is the old firm because celtic fans know that there is no old firm.

    Shocking decisions in this match.

This referee and one of his linesmen are corrupt or totally incompetent – take your pick. SIX players were playing Maeda onside. If you still the video and as the ball is passed to Daizen and count – there are SIX PLAYERS PLAYING HIM ONSIDE.

How can a linesman get that wrong? The referee also ignored the elbow on Giorgos in the penalty box which was a red card AND a penalty.

Jota’s goal unfortunately was offside and we are not making a fuss about that, but refereeing in this country leaves much to be desired.

We have an incompetent and corrupt bunch of old parasites running the SFA, so it’s no wonder we have incompetent/corrupt match officials.

Celtic players showed immense restraint in the face of this incompetence yesterday.

Fergus, would have been onto this like a flash had he been here still.

I watched the referee and his linesmen warm up before the match and they are definitely not fit. The referee was continually struggling to keep up with play.

Interestingly, when I go to Spain or to France to watch games, it is obvious that the referees and linesmen are as fit as the players in general
