In the immediate aftermath of Reo Hatate’s fourth minute shot hitting the back of the net there were a few moments of concern for Celtic supporters.

For reasons unknown Bobby Madden decided to consult with his assistant while also being involved in a discussion with someone on his ear-piece. The ear-piece is to allow assistants instant communication with the referee, something that is essential to draw attention to an incident when there are 60,000 noisy fans around the pitch.

Two of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s players had collided trying to clear the Celtic corner but none of them suffered a head knock. Madden witnessed that, play continued and within five seconds the ball was in the net.

As every fan knows there is no VAR in Scottish football, decisions are taken at the time by the three match officials.

From the images above it looks like Madden is getting instruction from elsewhere on how to deal with Reo Hatate’s opening goal.

  • Eddy says:

The Fact the UEfApresident was at the game sitting in the Stand may have made him reconsider pulling any of his usual stunts of giving his team a hand up

  • John mcghee says:

Their is no head knock our a foul to sevco i think the sevco player was acting it because he knew the ball went into the net look at the size of him his own player hand touches his shoulder and that knocks him out i dont think so because he was on his feet running about in mins this is what sevco players will start to do at corners kicks so the officials blew to stop the game and as for madden he seen everything that happened so why talk to the linesmen eh not unless he heard alex ebt rae shouting for offside that mob are sad sad losers and there fans honest. .

As much as I hate to defend brother Boaby could he have been putting his finger in his ear to shut out the bedlam from 60k celebrating Tims?? ??

  • Stev says:

I am sure he was doing the same after the third.

    • Tam c says:

Play the whistle… Reo did goal end of…as for Madden he should be asked Why he spoke to the linesman as they are miked up …and the linesman also should be asked what was asked of him by Madden

    • Joeshug says:

I think he had a direct link to the Lodge and Masons Den, telling him if he didn’t disqualify the beautiful goal they were going to put him in the naughty corner at the next meeting with a DUNCE cap on his baldy nut. LOL

  • Jim Duffy says:

If the incident with giakomakis where he was fouled inside the box,if that had been a Sevco player I have no doubt a penalty would have been awarded,I thought that instantly at the time.

  • Jack says:

He was grasping at straws sfa must be worried by pressuring lines man to notice something has to be ask what we’re you looking for

  • Allaboutceltic says:

I think most Celtic supporters were shouting and thinking it was Huns in action again, because we all know if there was even the remotest reason for ruling against that goal, it would’ve been called. Without any EPL games on just now, this game got more coverage than normal, so if they had challenged the legitimacy of the goal, they would’ve showed themselves up for what every Celtic fan around the world already knows.

    HAIL HAIL
    KEEP THE FAITH??

  • A ref. says:

He would be checking to see if any celtic player had been involved with the incident with the rangers players who collided.

  • Tony B says:

McGregor lied to Madden saying the hun player had been fouled by a Celtic player, when he knew the 2 huns had bumped into one another.

He was in effect cheating to get the goal disallowed.

Madden checked it out and the goal stood.

    Huns cheating. Whodathunkit?

  • Rob O’Keeffe says:

He’s obviously communicating with the 4th official whose probably pointed out that MadHun and his brother linesman were nearer the action than him…..

  • John S says:

He was just looking for any excuse to chop off the goal but couldn’t find one.

  • John S says:

Top marks to Callum McGregor for avoiding the ‘second yellow’ set-up.
