Celtic are cranking up the hype for the Sydney Super Cup despite one report from New Zealand that there are serious doubts about the event.

It is highly unusual for any club to be promoting an event eight months away but two days before facing Ross County in a vital SPFL match the club has put Ange Postecoglou in front of the cameras to promote the match.

With the heavy hype it seems certain that Celtic will be getting a percentage of the money raised from ticket sales.

According to New Zealand based broadcaster the organisers have discovered some unresolved issues which might be security related over hosting two sets of supporters in the one city over a five day period.

Throughout the interview Postecoglou is asked for his level of excitement over the competition, mention is made of the match against Sydney FC but strangely nothing about the Glasgow derby.

I haven’t been home for a couple of years. By the time we get around to that it will have been almost three years, so I’m super excited.

It will be great. The club’s been down there a couple of times before, I know just how passionate people are about the club there, so I’m looking forward to it.

It’s a homecoming in many respects. That’s where my roots are, it’s where I grew up and I know that since I’ve been in this position people have been following my journey.

I’ll have a great sense of pride going back there as manager of Celtic. It’ll be special. The club have always had a strong connection with Australia and I’ve been exposed to it.

I know how passionate the supporters’ groups are down there, whether that’s through Scott McDonald, Tom Rogic or Jackson Irvine, the Australians who have passed through the club.

To now be manager of the club, I think the Australian public in general will take great pride that one of theirs is in charge of such a famous club.

Tickets for all games (Rangers v WSW, Celtic v Sydney and Celtic v Rangers) went on pre-sale for Telstra customers today, with the public able to purchase tomorrow. Hardly likely that the promoters would sell tickets that they would have to refund if the games were in doubt.

Editor: Rangers went into liquidation in 2012, the club going to Sydney is the Charles Green Tribute Act.
