Jack Hendry has warned Alfred Schreuder that the best defender at Club Brugge will have to leave in the summer if he isn’t restored to first team action.

The Scotland defender has always had a high opinion of himself which seems to have been fuelled by a highly successful season on loan at Oostende.

Hendry had dropped to sixth or seventh choice at Celtic after undergoing knee surgery with the loan deal in August 2020 his best chance of getting competitive football.

Oostende and Hendry enjoyed the season of their dreams that concluded with a place in the Scotland squad at the European Championships and a £5m move to Brugge soon after Oostende took up their right-to-buy option from Celtic.

A change of manager at Oostende has reduced Hendry’s role to just 38 minutes over the last eight matches.

As he told the Daily Record, Hendry can’t allow that situation to impact on his Scotland place:

We changed managers and he has been extremely harsh on me. I should be in the side and I certainly didn’t go to Club Brugge to sit on the bench. That has got to resolve itself fairly quickly. We will see what happens when I go back, but it needs to change.

I didn’t go there to sit on the bench and I had a fantastic start to the season. I played in the Champions League games, six out of six, and it was unbelievable. I was in a really good place.

These things happen when football managers come in. I got two red cards but the treatment of me has probably been over the top. For me, I am now going back and will hopefully get back in the side fairly quickly.

Last summer Hendry was linked with a number of English clubs with the Belgian league very heavily scouted.

Say what you like about the stupidity of putting buy-out clauses in loan deals but I’m glad we got shot of this arsehole. His ability is directly disproportionate to his massive ego. I usually always want good things for our former players whether they made the grade or not but for this gobby twat? I hope he ends up at a third-tier side from Kazakhstan.
