When you’ve had a howler live on radio and repeated on television it is wise to leave things alone and try to gently move along.

On Wednesday night Celtic enjoyed a fairly routine win over St Mirren, two second half goals proved too much against opponents with absolutely no attacking intent and happy to run the clock down from early in the first half.

Anyone with a grasp of football knows that over a 38 game league campaign a team will turn in a variety of performances.

A season like 2016/17 is very, very rare. Winning 34 out of 38 matches and picking up two domestic cup competitions is a once in a lifetime event but even that season- shock horror- there were a few matches less than sparkling. During December 2016 Celtic had single goal home wins over Dundee, Hamilton and Partick Thistle.

After his ‘hard watch’ comment to Ange Postecoglou following the St Mirren match Kenny Macintyre of BBC Scotland has been taken to task on Twitter. Amazingly, on Thursday lunchtime, more than 15 hours after the final while the BBC reporter was still trying to justify his view.

Following the deadline day signing of Aaron Ramsey Macintyre tweeted that he was a Rangers fan, it is virtually unheard of for a BBC Scotland reporter to admit to being a supporter of either of the big two Glasgow clubs.
