Tom Rogic has been forced out of Australia’s World Cup double header against Japan ad Saudi Arabia.

The midfielder was the victim of a brutal attack from Kayne Ramsey that resulted in a straight red card for the Ross County defender.

Had referee Don Robertson taken appropriate action a few minutes earlier when the same player dangerously fouled Daizen Maeda it is highly unlikely that he’s have put in the same challenge on Rogic.

Australian based website Fox Sports reports:

The Socceroos’ already troubled build up to Thursday night’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Japan has been further rocked by the withdrawal of Celtic star Tom Rogic and Central Coast Mariners defender Kye Rowles from Australia’s squad.

Playmaker Rogic’s unavailability was not totally unexpected after he injured his ankle when on the receiving end of a shocking red-card tackle Celtic’s 4-0 Scottish Premiership weekend win over Ross County.

Celtic will now have to wait to discover the extent of the damage done to the midfielder who has become an essential part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans that have taken Celtic clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership.

David Turnbull did return to action after a three month absence of Saturday but it would be asking a lot to expect the former Motherwell midfielder to go into the starting XI at Ibrox.

Matt O’Riley and Nir Bitton are more likely replacements but with both away on international duty it will be the middle of next week before Postecoglou will be able to think about his midfield for the Glasgow derby on April 3.
