Kris Commons believes that Celtic are playing for more than three points at Ibrox on Sunday.

There will still be six SPFL matches to be played when the action is done and dusted, including another Derby at Celtic Park, but the former Nottingham Forest and Derby man sees the Ibrox match as pivotal.

A year ago the title had already been decided with Neil Lennon’s side imploding but this week Celtic hold a healthy three point and 14 goal advantage.

Ten wins and a draw in the 2022 SPFL has established that position with Commons believing that a win at Ibrox will deliver a blow that will send Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side spinning out of contention.

Picking up on his Daily Mail column, the Daily Record reports:

It’s not just the fact that Celtic would go six points clear. There are a few different things you have to consider in all of this.

It’s the psychological damage they could inflict on Rangers if they were to beat them on their own patch on the back of that Celtic Park annihilation.

There’s also the fact that Rangers are still juggling their domestic ambitions with trying to make further progress in the Europa League.

Even beyond next week’s game, I still feel there’s a vulnerability to this Rangers team domestically and I sense that they could drop more points from now until the end of the season.

I don’t get that same impression from Celtic at the moment. They look extremely slick and well-drilled. Postecoglou has created an animal.

If they do go on and become champions, I feel it would rank as one of the sweetest league titles in Celtic’s history, given the shambles the club were in last summer.

No one knows better than Postecoglou the type of performance that will be needed to win or take a point from Ibrox, a Champions League group place is at stake for the title winners.

With internationals going on across the globe this week it won’t be until Wednesday that the Celtic boss can start filing his team-sheet with the names to do battle at Ibrox.
