Matt O’Riley has been called up by Denmark for the first time with the Celtic midfielder named in the u-21 squad to face Belgium.

The midfielder ended 2021 playing in League One for MK Dons but after a £1.5m move to Celtic his dream of a place at the World Cup Finals in Qatar has taken a significant step closer.

Although capped by England at u-16 and u-18 level O’riley has a Danish mother and regularly visits Danish family.

The match against Belgium is on Tuesday March 29 giving the midfielder Wednesday to return to Scotland to prepare for the Glasgow Derby on Sunday April 3.

O’Riley was pitched straight into his Celtic debut away to Hearts at Tynecastle- a week later he was making a big impression as Celtic won the Glasgow Derby 3-0 to go to the top of the Premiership table.

His rapid promotion into the Danish squad is bound to be of interest to other transfer targets with Celtic and Ange Postecoglou offering a great platform to advance careers.
