Chris Sutton has questioned Bobby Madden’s ability to referee top flight matches.

The East Kilbride based official has had a nightmare season but continues to carry the trust of the SFA who sent him to Dens Park today to take charge of the visit from Giovani van Bronckhorst’s side a month after he was across the road for their visit to Tannadice.

Since the winter break the Ibrox club have had six away matches in the SPFL with Madden refereeing three of them.

Dundee took a sixth minute lead through Christie Elliot but late in the first half Madden decided to point to the penalty spot.

Alfredo Morelos had pushed and pulled at Jordan McGhee but when the Dundee defender tugged at the Colombian’s shirt he fell to the ground with Madden obliging by pointing to the penalty spot. James Tavernier sent the penalty over the bar.

In the second half every borderline decision went the way of the away side as they came back to win 2-1.

Madden refereed six of Celtic’s first 24 SPFL matches, Ian Bankier is deeply concerned by Scottish referees but won’t reveal what issues concern him.

  • Peter Cassidy says:

Bent referees have been in scottish football for many many years .

  • Dora says:

I’m pretty sure the Dundee player used some bad language when columbo manhandled him as he fell so, it’s gotta be a penalty I suppose!!

  • Charlie Green says:

What the hell is Sutton talking about? Giving Sevco soft penalties is the required level for Scottish referees.

  • Slugger O’Toole says:

    Bobby Madyin

    • Tommy Kennedy says:

Madden is by far the best ref we have but he is going down in my estimation and the weekend has added to some strange decisions and the brotherhood will now up the ante in favour of SEVCO

Editor: Madden is at it, every game. Don’t be fooled by Open Goal attempt to portray him as a decent guy. He certainly isn’t.
