Chris Sutton’s post match tweet on Bobby Madden certainly lit up the internet.

Almost all of the big publishers covering the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden were quick to use the tweet with much of the post-match focus on the performance of the referee.

There was no dramatic penalty kick or red card dished out but a succession of fouls on Celtic players went unpunished with John Lundstram very fortunate to stay on the park.

Four hours later it had attracted over 2,300 comments, been retweeted more than 2,100 times and been liked by more than 11,000 Twitter users.

Madden is certainly highly rated by the SFA, since January 2021 he has refereed four of the eight Glasgow derbies played.

Today was his seventh Celtic match of the season but his first for more than two months. In Celtic’s first 24 Premiership matches of the season Madden was in charge of six.

After today’s defeat Celtic’s attention turns to the SPFL Premiership where they have a six point lead with five matches left to play.

A week today the hoops are away to Ross County followed on May 1 with the final Glasgow derby of the season, played at Celtic Park.

Worst performance from a referee in a long time. However you write nothing about our performance which I find bizarre in the extreme. We were second to every ball, lost every second ball. We looked dead on our feet yet they went to extra time 3 days ago. I know he is often the whipping boy but Taylor had a terrible game, deflected goal aside. Jota done nothing. Once Juranovic went off Kent became a big threat. An old man in Davis strolled it when he came on. Kyogo is clearly way short in fitness. Second choice goalkeeper was not tested in 120 minutes. Not nearly good enough today, anything else is papering over the cracks.

No wonder none of the Scottish referees are going to be involved at the World Cup. They are absolutely shocking!!

Referees supporting ‘Rangers’…..found to be drinking in ‘Rangers’ pub…..a disgrace and our game is CORRUPT.

Send 6 of our refs to England and 6 of theirs refereeing our Premiership matches up here in Scotland.

The Old Firm get away with everything…..it is not a level playing field up here.

Madden was not sure what to do only thing that he got right was not given a penalty to the huns

Chris always says it as he sees it ,and rightly so. Todays attempt by madden as a ref was totaly pityfull, disgusting, and dishonest.Players in every team playing should be protected by the ref and in scottish football this is something that DOES NOT happen .The SFA NEED to sit-up and take notice of what is happening on the field Refs in my opinion should be reassesed after a certain period of games Madden and the rest of his cronies should be made accountable for decisions taken Yesterday’s game was a shambles he completely lost the plot Celtic admittedly were not at their best but being kicked about and receiving no protection from the ref would take the heart out of any player ,maybe Ang should teach them how to be more DRAMATIC, when they are fouled like some of their apponants .l think NOT haha and maybe madden should make an appointment with SPECSAVERS before his next game and he may issue RED and yellow cards when appropriate

Oh well, in a season we were meant to win nothing at all, I suppose a “double” will just have to do.?
