Hugh Dallas has confirmed that VAR wouldn’t have had any impact on Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

Bobby Madden’s performance was widely criticised by Chris Sutton, Michael Stewart and others but 48 hours after his Hampden nightmare the focus moved onto VAR.

Halfway through next season referees will be able to call on VAR as well as be advised to check out incidents that they may have missed.

Dallas told The Sun:

VAR isn’t going to solve every problems or issue in a game. I read criticism of Bobby in the semi but, for me, VAR wouldn’t have got involved to overturn a single incident, because while there were decisions based on opinion, there wasn’t a clear and obvious error.

Offside checks on goals will be part of the VAR package as will sending offs but run of the mill fouls and bookings, such as those from John Lundstram on a variety of Celtic players will be left with the match referee.

Neither Celtic or the SFA have made any comment on Madden’s performance, on Saturday the Lanarkshire based official will referee the crucial Premiership clash between Dundee and St Johnstone.

Kevin Clancy ill referee Celtic’s match on Sunday away to Ross County.

Just showing the media in this country up for what is huh

That they still think it’s ok to wheel out an ex ref who got sacked for sending shameful emails about the pope

His opinion on anything should mean absolutely f*ck all and ignored

    • Bhoy4life says:

      Therin lies the problem.
One of the “supposed” best refs Scotland has had says VAR wouldn’t have been implemented at any point during the semi final….even tho the winning goal was offside.

  • John S says:

Mr. Dallas is telling us how VAR will not ‘make any difference’ to the current state of affairs i.e. jobs are available to the right candidates.

  • francis kiernan says:

would VAR not be used to test whether the PB’s goal was offside or not?

  • John mcghee says:

Fuck what scum dallas says he’s just a rat hun bastard who i hate but would to see his box soon scumbag dallas.

  • Frank Reid says:

Bobby Dallas!!!! if you are going to ask anyone he would be the last person after his history who is next King Billy

  • Pan says:

I would believe Boris Johnson before I would believe Dallas on anything.

  • walter cooke says:

VAR should only be used,If the referee is in doubt, and asked for it,as in rugby.

Unless if Off the ball incident occurs

The PL,tried to discredit it,but this year been a bit better.

It will help Referees, If Used the right way.

  • Tam says:

The training for the people looking at VAR should be last seasons penalties, goals given, and goals disallowed. And see how many benefitted “the rangers”.It won’t happen.

Mr Beaton had something better than VAR he had a re run of incidents not in the heat of the moment but well after the game . And said he got them ALL correct VAR will protect guys like him

  • John Douglas MacLean says:

What do you expect from another crap former ref he was just as bad as the rest of the flute boys

  • Alex Brown says:

Corruption dressed up as paranoia. The whole of Scottish refereeing needs changing top to bottom. Wouldn’t trust em to get a coin toss right never mind VAR. Neutral country making the decisions gets my vote or will question everything. No trust in refs whatsoever

  • John Lynaghan says:

Didn’t expect anything else from Hugh Dallas so comments are irrelevant to a lot of fans.Referees and ex referees ((Dallas Dougie Smith) will not come out and speak against any of there refereeing brothers. You will also so find that a few of them still still on the referee committee at the SFA

  • Dave Ramshaw says:

Var will never work as long as it is controlled by referees, none of them will say publicly that one of their number is incompetent ie give a decision against him.

Only way to make it work is to have independent var officials who are not part of the refereeing cartel.
