Kris Boyd is still convinced that the Europa League dream is alive.

Last night the former Kilmarnock striker was in the Sky Sports News studio as he watched Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side slipped to their third defeat in their last four matches, broken only by an 85th minute goal from Conor Goldson away to Dundee.

A Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic is looming in nine days but before that the Ibrox side have to get through tough tests against St Mirren and the Braga return leg.

It wasn’t Rangers best performance especially in Europe. They have reached heights that I don’t even think Rangers fans would have thought Rangers could get to in Europe.

Tonight wasn’t their best performance but the tie is still alive. I still fancy their chances to overturn the deficit when they get Braga back to Ibrox next week.

Last night’s defeat was the sixth this season for The Tribute Act in Europe with Malmo twice, Lyon, Sparta Prague and Red Star Belgrade inflicting the previous defeats.

Boyd is expected to be part of Sky’s coverage at St Mirren on Sunday.
