Negotiations underway over summer Celtic departure

Oostende are hoping that Celtic can help them to make Osaze Urhoghide’s move to the Belgian club permanent.

The defender signed a four year contract with Celtic in the summer but after just one appearance, impressing in the Europa League dead-rubber against Real Betis, he moved out on loan during the January transfer window.

Oostende negotiated an option to make the deal permanent but seem to be unable to match the wages that Urhoghide is on at Celtic.

Gauthier Ganaye, CEO of Oostende, told the Daily Record:

Urhoghide has proved to be an excellent addition, but the problem is he is still too expensive for us. But I hope we can work out a solution with Celtic, then I would be very happy because we really want to keep Osaze.

Last summer Oostende made an instant profit on Jack Hendry after he arrived in similar circumstances from Celtic.

It is a bit of a shock that the wages Celtic are paying a project signing seem to be in excess of that paid by a team in the top flight of Belgian football.

With Cameron Carter-Vickers only at Celtic on loan and Chris Jullien out of contract in May 2023 there could be some options in Ange Postecoglou’s central defence during the close season.
