Tom Rogic is enjoying himself and probably playing the best football of his career.

Not bad for someone that looked washed up at the age of 28 just 12 months ago.

For whatever reasons a move to Qatar fell through in the summer of 2020 with Neil Lennon hardly welcoming the midfielder back with open arms.

In season 2016/17 Rogic scored in both domestic cup final wins, turning 24 midway through the season there seemed to be plenty of glittering times ahead.

Injuries, plastic pitches and international commitments contributed but under Lennon there seemed to be a lack of belief and trust in an undoubted match-winner.

Miraculously Celtic matched the midfielder up with a former international manager, this season has been Rogic’s most productive since the joys of that Invincible Treble- sealed by a last gasp goal from the Australian against Aberdeen at Hampden.

Discussing football’s strange ways, Rogic told The Sun:

Right now I’m enjoying myself. I’m feeling good and I’m happy. There’s not too much more to say.

Is there more in my locker? Potentially. In football these days you see players peaking later and playing longer, so who knows?

Did I feel that my best years were behind me? Not really. I can’t control what people are thinking on the outside. I’m a pretty relaxed guy and that wasn’t on my mind at all.

Football works in funny ways. I think people get too high when things are going well and then they get carried away when it’s not going so good.

I have enjoyed the season thoroughly. In spells I’ve probably played some of my best football and, physically, it’s probably the best I have felt for a long time.

It’s just been nice to be out on the pitch every week and enjoying football with a smile on my face again.

In January it will be 10 years since Rogic signed from Central Coast Mariners, a new contract beyond May 2023 would be very well received by the Celtic support.
