John Beaton will referee Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.

The Lanarkshire based whistler has been overlooked for the four previous clashes this season, with Bobby Madden taking charge of two of the last three, but Beaton be the man in the middle for Sunday’s clash.

Beaton’s most recent Celtic match was on March 14 in the Scottish Cup away to Dundee United when he wrongly disallowed a ‘goal’ from Daizen Maeda claiming handball by Giorgos Giakoumakis, instantly on Premier Sports Stephen Craigan was able to quote the rule and why the referee had got it wrong.

Later in the match he missed a handball in the Dundee United penalty area as Matt Riley prepared to shoot.

On April 10 Beaton was in charge for St Mirren’s 4-0 home defeat to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Frank Connor and former Police Officer Graeme Stewart will be on the lines with Don Robertson looking on as fourth official. Strangely Connor was also an assistant referee at Sunday’s match away to Ross County.

In January 2019 Celtic issued a statement highly critical of Beaton’s performance in a match at Ibrox, no explanation was ever made public.

With four matches left to play Celtic go into Sunday’s match with a six point lead in the race for the SPFL Premiership.

After what refs have got away with in the last couple of weeks never mind the game from 2019,we can expect much the same with decisions come Sunday.
The beers will already be on tap for him in the pub when he returns there after the game.

  • Dando says:

Brother John will be hoping he can have as impressive a performance as his fellow brother Bobby had for their club fae ibrox last week…..

Everybody knows that Beaton is either highly incompetent or a cheat.

    • Dinger says:

Beaton or madden what’s the difference two lodge members would the SPL allow someone from the Knights of st. Columba to referee a rangers Celtic match I don’t think so

  • SSMPM says:

None of us trust what Mrs Beaton’s gonna cook up this weekend, an open and honest game pie or the Madden’s tactic of serving up constant picky fouls against us and allowed un-booked assaults done on us. It says a lot that, and the SFA know this, that these two are the most highlighted and hun supporting refs by us, yet they put them in charge of season defining games.

My theory is the hun refs wanted to allow a competition this season, so were less picky and harsh on Celtic, still of course wanting and expecting their huns to come out as winners. They were caught out however by the failures from the midden’s world class players and now they trying to lessen that impact and even trying to keep them in the running. We’ve got to put in an extraordinary performance this weekend to nullify that impacting on us. C’mon a Hoops

Why are they letting this blue nose be the referee for this match,we all know he’s a ranger’s supporter.
There will be a penalty given to the ranger’s at some point of the game.
If Celtic get beat, you know why, the SFA are ranger’s fan’s aswell, and one blue nose is. In the board room for the ranger’s .
It’s going to be a shit show.
    I hope am wrong
    Come on the BHOYS
    Slaughter these wankers!!!!!!!
