Graham Spiers has called out Follow Follow as one of the official Ibrox media partner celebrates their favoured subject- child abuse.

Anyone that has visited that Ibrox fans forum will be well aware of the topic that attracts most interest from their members, with their club pulling out of the Sydney Super Cup the admin/moderator decided to spin a fresh thread. branding it the Rolf Harris Cup. Ho Ho Ho.

Yesterday the same person was invited onto Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Zoom conference call to preview Sunday’s match against Celtic.

Perhaps Spiers should recognise that Managing Director Robertson approves and welcomes the partnership and that Follow Follow echoes the views of the huge majority of Ibrox fans, not the tiny minority of naughty boys that some like to portray them as.

While Spiers does have a very valid point a large part of his issue is that the mainstream media no longer have the sort of access that they revelled in with Sir Walter, wee Dickie, big Alex and Coisty.

These days a similarly cosy relationship exists with the Ibrox Media/PR office but is just conveyed by different faces and outlets, the same hands-off approach to certain topics is fully observed.

Follow Follow and Heart & Hand now sit alongside Sky Sports and STV and a few other stragglers to pass on the message directly to supporters while BBC Scotland, the Daily Record and others parrot whatever has been said without questioning or explaining that they weren’t in on the conference call asking questions.

These days Spiers produces an interview or two and a column for The Times, for European matches Michael Grant of The Times is usually invited in on the zoom call to ask one question.

Celtic will be at Ibrox tomorrow and are likely to again play ball with those media outlets vetted and approved by the Ibrox PR guru that sends out the invite to Follow Follow and other similar outlets.

Back in August Celtic’s Communications Manager Iain Jamieson was happy to play along with those arrangements with access given to Ange Postecoglou and Callum McGregor.

Celtic could have provided Sky Sports with their after match access, got on the bus (provided by friend of the board Douglas Park), returned to Celtic Park and set up their own media conference call open to most of the Scottish media.

With the match kicking off at 12 noon a 3pm media conference from Celtic Park wouldn’t have impacted on any printing deadlines, instead the club was happy to go along with the arrangements of their Ibrox business partners.
