Van Bronckhorst counts the cost of beating St Mirren

Giovanni van Bronckhorst watched his side beat St Mirren 4-0 today but the points came at a price. 

John Lundstram and Filip Helander picked up first half injuries as the heavy schedule of fixtures starts to take its toll. 

Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi are already out for the rest of the season with Ryan Jack and Calvin Bassey left out of today’s squad.

After today’s win van Bronckhorst told Sky Sports: 

Lundstram felt his groin a little bit so we have to assess this in the next few days to see how he is. Hopefully he will make it for Thursday.  

With Helander, he fell awkwardly. He’s getting a scan just now, so hopefully today or tomorrow we will know the injury. 

Lundstram has been a regular in the team over the last two months after Middlesboro refused to come up with a suitable offer to sign the midfielder on loan during the January transfer window. 

Helander missed five months of the season after suffering an ankle injury away to St Johnstone in September. The Swedish star struggled to walk off the pitch after today’s ankle knock which leaves Leon Balogun, Calvin Bassey and starlet Leon King as the defensive options to play alongside Connor Goldson.  

With five SPFL matches still to be played Celtic are six points ahead with a goal difference advantage of plus 19.
