With Celtic possibly winning the SPFL Premiership title this weekend Ange Postecoglou has outlined his plans for the summer transfer window.

The new manager had an outstanding summer a year ago as he handled a massive transition, keeping Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie on board till the last moment with Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Giorgos Giakoumakis arriving on the final day of August.

Getting those two loanees to stay on for next summer and beyond will be the first priority over the next month but further work is needed with the prospect of four Champions League ties over five midweeks looming through October and into November.

Maintaining Celtic’s domestic position while making progress on the continent will be a tough ask with recent European results an obvious source of concern.

Postecoglou seems to be a man with a plan for every scenario, last autumn he identified three J-League signings who were rolled out on December 31 and good to go from the first fixture in January.

There are a number of areas where I think this season, in the earlier part of the year, we did not have the depth in quality in certain positions to be able to carry the workload of having a 60-game season.

We are still in the stages of developing our players and developing our game style and, for me, there are still areas without specifying positions where I think we can have more quality in terms of our depth and in terms of the level of performance we put in.

There won’t be the amount of activity that we had last season but I think the activity we have this year will be significant. We will hopefully bring players that will improve us immediately rather than sort of bring players in who will just add to the squad.
