Callum McGregor has selected Celtic’s win at Aberdeen on October 3 as the match that he knew the tide was turning.

Three days earlier Bayer Leverkusen had won 4-0 at Celtic Park with the game at Pittodrie surrounded by tales of an eight month wait for an away win. Coming soon were trips to Motherwell and Hibs.

Having lost three of their first six SPFL matches and drawn at home to Dundee United some critics and pundits were speculating over whether Celtic would make the top half for the post-split fixtures.

Kyogo gave Celtic and early lead but after Aberdeen had equalised it required an 84th minute goal from Jota to put Celtic on course for the title.

A win in today’s Glasgow derby would put Celtic nine points clear with three matches left to be played, reflecting on the big moments of the season, McGregor told The Sun:

The Aberdeen game away from home that was a big moment for the group. Then we could go away from home, play that style and win at a difficult venue. That gave the players the belief to really kick on from that point and try to be successful.

The beauty of this group is there’s still more to come, more development in the players with the way the manager wants to play to try and take us to the next level.

McGregor hasn’t missed a beat through that run, today will be his 48th appearance of the season.
