A year after his Daddy announced that he was stepping aside as CEO Mark Lawwell has been appointed as Celtic’s Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment.
It is quite remarkable that the same family can provide the best candidate for two largely different roles within a football club.
Mark joins Celtic from Manchester City, according to his LinkedIn profile he has been Head of CFG Scouting and Recruitment at City Football Group since November 2012.
CFG is the City Football Group which includes Yokohama Marinos where Ange Postecoglou was manager until Celtic’s 106 day search found a replacement for Neil Lennon.
Similar to the Sydney Super Cup, Celtic’s announcement of the key appointment is all about Postecoglou, there is no comment from Lawwell Jnr or picture of him on the club website.
One of Lawwell Senior’s last appointments was to bring in Nicky Hammond, initially on a short term basis, as Head of Football Operations in October 2019.
Hatem Abd Elhamed, Boli Bolingoli, Patryk Klimala, Ismaila Soro. Andrew Gutman, Vasilis Barkas and Albian Ajeti were signed up under Lawwell and Hammond with expensive loan deals bringing in Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny.

Absolutely shocking.
Should Ange be removed from managers roll now or are we just wetting our knickers.
Ange worked with him for years. He is already talking up his satisfaction at the appointment. Hammond and his Dad has no relevance here if his CV is strong. Can’t talk for others but I am for trusting Ange’s opinion over yours Editor.
