Celtic are reported to be interested in Connor Barron.

The midfielder was one of the few to impress at Aberdeen last season with the Dons finishing in the bottom six and sacking Stephen Glass in February.

It is difficult to see where a 19-year-old midfielder would fit in at Celtic but the Scottish Daily Express reports:

Celtic have run the rule over Aberdeen’s highly-rated youngster Connor Barron today. The Hoops sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old impress during Scotland’s Under-21s clash with Belgium.

Express Sport understands that Ange Postecoglou and his scouting team have been impressed with Barron throughout the season.

The midfielder was a standout for Scot Gemmill’s side, earning a point against the runaway group leaders.

Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin has already identified Barron as a key component in his rebuild and it would take a major offer for them to even consider selling.

Celtic routinely watch Scotland under-age international matches with Stephen Welsh captaining the u-21’s today.

In January Barron signed a new contract committing him to Aberdeen until May 2024 but with Liam Scales apparently a transfer target for Aberdeen Barron’s name may well have been discussed.

While it is hard to see where Barron would fit into a Celtic side that has Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Yosuke Ideguchi and David Turnbull competing for places he could be bought and loaned back to Aberdeen similar to the Ryan Christie transfer from Inverness Caley Thistle in 2015.

Celtic have been clearing the decks of midfielders with Tom Rogic, Nir Bitton, Luca Connell and Kerr McInroy leaving since the season ended.
