Utrecht are reported to preparing an offer for Vasilis Barkas.

Signed in the summer of 2020 to much fanfare the keeper endured a torrid first season at Celtic but was given the chance to revive his career under Ange Postecoglou.

Losing a soft goal to Midtjylland followed by a 6-2 hammering from West Ham resulted in Barkas being dropped with Joe Hart brought in as first choice keeper.

With two years still to run on his lucrative contract some tough negotiations will have to be held but Football Scotland reports:

According to the Daily Mail, Dutch club Utrecht are preparing to make an offer to bring him to the Netherlands.

Celtic paid £5million to AEK Athens to secure the goalie’s signature back in 2020. But they may consider just cutting their losses now and allow Barkas to head to Utrecht for less.

He has also been linked with a return to his homeland to sign up for AEK Athens once again. Either way, it seems all but certain that the keeper’s torrid time at Celtic is all but over as Utrecht reportedly make their move for him.

If Barkas can be moved on it will represent the start of a much needed clear out of the squad that Postecoglou inherited.

Albian Ajeti, Ismaila Soro and Boli Bolingoli were used in the early weeks of the season but only Soro with a few appearances off the bench featured after the turn of the year.

Scott Bain extended his contract last season suggesting that Postecoglou is happy having the former Dundee man as back up to Hart.
