With good news thin on the ground at Ibrox The Herald has turned to ‘data information gatherer Transfermarkt’ to provide good news for their readership.

A generation or two ago the then Glasgow Herald carried some authority, a fairly neutral and detached newspaper that carried respect even if opinions varied.

These days print is a virtual by-product as successive management teams cut costs to the bone with a few dozen digital whizz-kids spewing out similar content across their various titles including the Glasgow (Evening) Times, Rangers Review and Celtic Way.

Credibility was sacrificed a long time ago with clicks the King, whatever the quality.

Transfermarkt is a great website for data such as player statistics, contract details and agencies. In terms of valuing players they are on a par with those that introduced a Motherwell born billionaire to their readers in November 2011. Six months later a cherished Scottish institution was bought for less than the cover price of The Herald (£1.80).

Under the headline ’Rangers dominate Scotland’s most valuable player charts with just two Celtic stars making top 10’ the detail actually reads:

NEW data published by football information gatherer Transfermarkt has revealed the most valuable combined XI for the Scottish Premiership.

Six Rangers players make the cut, while only five Celtic stars have made the team.

Joe Hart, Josip Juranovic, Callum McGregor, Liel Abada and Jota are all included from Ange Postecoglou’s side last season who won the Premiership and League Cup.

In terms of Rangers, Calvin Bassey, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos all make the cut.

Kent is quoted with the highest market value on Transftermarkt of £15.75million, with Alfredo Morelos a close second at £11.7million.

Celtic’s top asset, according to the data, is captain McGregor who has a value of £7.2million, both Abada and Jota are priced at £6.75million.

Just McGregor and Jota make the top ten charts of the most valuable players currently playing in Scotland.

Tavpen made the team of the season as a left sided central defender, Josip Juranovic pipped Tony Ralston for the right-back place. Transfermarkt values  Juranovic at £6.3m which won’t get close to the negotiating table.

In January Herald readers are in for a shock when they see the fees paid for Morelos, Kent and Aribo.

This is up there with the clowns that claimed Celtic inflated the fee they got for Edouard. On the basis of the fee placed on him by EA Sports for last season’s FIFA game.

God bless their wee cotton socks.

  • Tony B says:

Pish and bollocks to keep the dumb sevs happy.

Well let’s face it, they’ve got f*ck all else to be happy about.

  • Justshatered says:

Remember when Morelos, Kent, or Aribo goes they will be for world record Undisclosed fees.

  • Frankie says:

Why do they not come out and say what they got for Patterson? The reason being it was a pittance and the desperate Dan’s needed what was on the table. They are like Oliver more please.

I have long since stopped reading all 2nd generation newspapers, all summer we get prices for everybody and nobody leaves for money, when will the fans of this newish institution get wise to what’s happening, they are skint.
How many clubs have a run to the Europa League final and still can’t buy without selling, nobody. It reminds me of Celtic before Fergus, lots of cash but not enough money for good players, Payton anyone ?.
I will always maintain that if Celtic had got a good manager after Rodgers, the 2nd generation would have went bust and the papers would have went out of business, or changed there stand point

Its debateable which will go down the pan first The Herald or Sevco FC – both depend on deluded zombies to survive and both are bottom feeders. It would seem that the only qualifications to be a sports writer with the Herald is to have a personality disorder that affects any cognitive volitional capacity. The results of which serve to consolidate our love for all things Celtic and to guffaw at the poor mans futile attempts at selling Bull $hit.

It’s usually “respected website transfermarkt.com says”…respected by whom? Their valuations are always so obviously way off the mark It’s unbelievable, so of course the SMSM hun hacks will base their fables on them.

A frankly embarrassing article…if Kent was worth so much money he must be so good that Sevco must be batting away offers like a coked-up Babe Ruth, no? No? No offers at any time you say? Surely not?

Funny just how many times over the last few years that after some swift speculation players have left CP for big fees, yet Sevco players are linked even more frequently for bigger fees but zero of these players ever receive bids!?!?

Patterson being the exception though the reported fee is obviously bollocks and the didn’t spend years hawking the lad via every ex-player and hun hack possible as they have with Fat Alf/Goldson/Tavernier/Kent/Aribo/etc. etc. etc…

    Fuds.
