Celtic face competition from two Italian clubs for the signing of Connor Barron.

Earlier this month a report emerged claiming that Celtic were interested in the teenager who started 13 SPFL Premiership matches last season.

The success of Aaron Hickey at Bologna has alerted Italian clubs to the quality of players available in Scotland with Barron catching the eye with the Scotland u-21 side.

Covering the issue, the Daily Record reports:

Celtic have been joined in the race to sign Connor Barron from Aberdeen with two Serie A clubs tracking the Scotland Under 21s star.

The Hoops have an interest in the 19-year-old after his impressive breakthrough campaign at Pittodrie. Belgian outfit RK Genk also have him on their transfer radar as interest hots up. Barron only signed a new deal with the Dons in January until 2024, but the Pittodrie club are already trying to renegotiate another deal with the talented youngster, with chairman Dave Cormack believed to be particularly keen to tie him down on a long-term contract.

Breaking into the Celtic midfield is a tough task with Scott Robertson and Liam Shaw sent out on loan last season with opportunities even limited for James McCarthy.

It is difficult to see where Barron might feature at Celtic but going back to Aberdeen on loan, as Ryan Christie did with Inverness Caley Thistle in 2016, might seem like a solution.

Yesterday Celtic and Aberdeen did business with Liam Scales moving on a season long loan to Pittodrie, the two clubs meet at Celtic Park on July 31 in the opening weekend of the SPFL Premiership season.
