Lanus have announced the transfer of Alexandro Bernabei to Celtic.

Over the last fortnight there has been strong speculation about the move with the player pictured last Friday inside Glasgow Airport.

A two match suspension from Bernabei’s final appearance for a red card picked up against Colon has clouded the issue with Celtic looking to avoid taking on the suspension.

Dated 29 June, Lanus announced:

Through this, we communicate the transfer of Alexandro Bernabei to Celtic Football Club, from Scotland; 10% of the player’s file will continue to be held by Club Atlético Lanús.

With our shirt, Bernabei has added 88 official matches and five goals, becoming part of the youth categories of the Argentine National Team.

To Berna, one of the many talents of the garnet quarry, we wish him the best of success in his next professional challenge

Normally transfer announcements are made in tandem, there is little doubt that Bernabei will be a Celtic player but the exact timeline has still to be confirmed.

Earlier this month Celtic announced Cameron Carter-Vickers had signed on a four year contract from Spurs with free agent Ben Siegrist also signed up to compete with Joe Hart.

Bernabei represents the first genuine addition to last season’s squad which has lost Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton with Karamoko Dembele and Chris Jullien also unlikely to return.

Transfer announcements usually are done in tandem, involving both clubs simultaneously.Hope Lanus haven’t jumped the gun and we get the old “News to us statement from Celtic.

Isn’t Google Translate wonderful?? Er, naw!

‘Garnet quarry’ ?? ‘Granate cantera’ in Spanish.

‘Granate’ is the nickname of Lanus (presumably from the colour of the shirts)

‘Cantera’ can also translate as ‘academy’, Bernabei is obviously one of their home grown talents.
