Celtic are facing strong competition in their attempts to sign Vinicius Souza.

The midfielder is registered with Belgian side Lommel but is expected to be elsewhere next season, on loan or sold on a permanent basis.

At the weekend the Daily Mail broke the news of Celtic’s interest with Lommel part of the City Football Group.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder made a big impression last season on loan at Mechelen which has brought clubs from across Europe to the negotiating table.

Reviewing the options currently available to Souza , the Daily Record reports:

Bologna have looked closely at Souza and, although they are also not involved on the continent next term, the lure of Serie A could compensate if the Italians make a concrete move.

PSV Eindhoven and Fenerbahce are in the qualifiers for the Champions League and it is Club Brugge and Celtic who are in a position to offer a guarantee of action at the highest level.

However, Record Sport understands that, at this moment, there is much work to be done to convince the player to move to Glasgow due to the levels of interest elsewhere and opportunities available.

While keen to sign the midfielder Ange Postecoglou won’t be dragged into making a dramatic pitch to sign any player.

Regular crowds of 60,000 and group stage football in the Champions League are powerful attractions but even over the last week the lure of Celtic has grown.

On the back of successful seasons at Celtic Daizen Maeda, Liel Abada and Giorgos Giakoumakis have all scored on international duty which won’t do their future career options any harm.
