Aberdeen are expected to make a formal offer for Liam Scales this week with the player keen to play regular first team football.
The defender joined Celtic from Shamrock Rovers last August, making 13 appearances mainly over the winter with his last outing coming away to Bodo Glimt on February 24.
With Celtic strongly linked with signing a left-back moving to another SPFL Premiership club would seem like a good move for all concerned with the Daily Record reporting:
Aberdeen will ramp up their interest in Liam Scales this week as they bid to thrash out a deal with Celtic.
The Dons are keen to sign the left-sided defender from the champions, with manager Jim Goodwin a long-term admirer of his fellow Irishman.
Sources in Ireland have confirmed Scales would be interested in moving north to Pittodrie to get regular first-team football.
The 23-year-old arrived at Parkhead last summer from Shamrock Rovers. He’s played in 13 games for Ange Postecoglou ’s side but has been very much on the fringes.
Aberdeen would prefer a permanent move but, with the finances concerned, a loan deal is more likely.
Having cost Celtic around £500,000 less than a year ago it seems unlikely that Aberdeen will be able to match that fee to sign Scales.
Originally billed as a left sided central defender or wing-back almost all of Scales’ Celtic appearances have been at left-back.
Carl Starfelt and Greg Taylor filled those positions over the last few months of the season, following the Europa Conference exit Celtic only had one midweek fixture.
In January 2017 Ryan Christie went on the first of two loans to Aberdeen which turned out to be the making of him after struggling to break into the Celtic side following his transfer from Inverness Caley Thistle.
